A. Perez-Ruzafa was awarded the first SEA-UNICORN Dissemination Meeting grant to take part in the ASLO 2021 Aquatic Sciences Meeting “Aquatic Sciences for a Sustainable Future: Nurturing Cooperation” Virtual meeting from 22 to 27 June 2021. At this occasion, he presented presented a keynote talk entitled “Would maximizing marine functional connectivity really improve biodiversity conservation in the ocean?” in the Special Session SS45 on Functional connectivity in marine ecosystems: methodological advances to integrate ecosystems complexity into management frameworks. The talk included some reflections on the role of marine connectivity in the functioning of populations, communities and ecosystems and discussed whether this parameter should be maximized or not for effective conservation of coastal marine ecosystems.
